Yes- it refers to dying. Since they are a band, and they play "gigs", it is just a metaphor for where they'd go when they die- to the great gig in the sky

(instrumental)

and I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, i
Dont mind. why should I be frightened of dying?
Theres no reason for it, youve gotta go sometime.
i never said I was frightened of dying.

If heaven is doing what you really enjoy (as opposed to praising God in joyous celebration as Evangelists maintain) then for musicians would consider a perfect performance (Gig) to be paradise.

It's a reference to heaven - presumably a heaven where people who are musicians would go after death :-)

I figure it's about death. The vocal is a faint whisper that says
"If you hear this whisper, you're dying"
(but, you really need to crank it up to hear it)
