If your looking for a romantic restaurant, then you can't go wrong with Italian. Magianos is very atmospheric and can set the mood. Also French restaurant Le Petit Bistro in Beverly Hills, CA is a good choice. Both a pretty reasonably priced.

What about the Chart House in Malibu on Pacific Coast Highway. The restaurant is lovely, and afterwards you can climb down the rocks outside the parking lot to the beach. You can see the Santa Monica pier and it's quiet. On a moonlit night it is very romantic.

El Matador Beach, Zuma Beach, The Grove, Third Street Promenade, Manhattan Beach...
For romantic restaurants, The Stinking Rose is my Fav. Ask for a private cabannah, also Chakra in beverly hills is nice. For more reasonaly priced restaurants, try Tantra in Hollywood.

Depends on who's paying. Since you just got a new boyfriend, how about a place that isn't too expensive yet is romantic. A place near the beach (Santa Monica, Venice, Marina del Rey, etc.) is usually a good choice. Good luck on your new relationship.

Malibu: Geoffrey's on PCH, or Gladstone's in Pacific Palisades
Santa Monica: Il Cugini on Ocean Ave, or The Lobster at the SM pier

try going to "the grove" which is an area with a variety of restaurants and cute shops. it is near the beverly hills farmers market, and anyone could direct you towards it.
otherwise, 3rd street promenade in santa monica is a wonderful location, just a few blocks away from the peir, with may options of cheap or special restaurants

Go to Old town Pasadena on Colorado Blvd.
Il Fornaio is nice but there are so many other places...
You can watch a movie or go clubbing afterwards.
