The fleas jump to any warm body, even a newborn kitten or puppy. There used to be sprays on the market which could be used on nursing mothers and kittens by spraying a towel and wrapping the animal for a minute. Keep the nose out.

Be careful to read and follow the directions EXACTLY. Flea spray can kill nursing kittens and puppies if the directions are not followed (to my everlasting regret, even if they were barn cats).

We recommend putting a dose of Advantage on the mother (back of neck). It will kill the fleas on the kitten as they travel back and forth while in contact with her. It's considered off-label use, but is very safe.

I wouldn't put any chemical to kill fleas on a one week old kitten. Try using a flea comb to get as many fleas off as possiblle.
