I have an MBA in marketing. Advertising was a component of the curriculum, but not enough emphasis was placed on the subject. If you want to do advertising specifically, I suggest you major in public relations/advertising.
Yet, the more I think about it, it often depends on the school and where they place the advertising component. Take a close look at the college that you are interested in and look to see where the advertising department is housed. It very well could be in the marketing department - but you will have to research that. And if your research does not give you specific information, call both the public relations department and the marketing department and ask.
