It honestly depends on your doctor and the type of health insurance that you have. With my doctor and my insurance (Tricare) I received ultra-sounds at 5, 6, 11, and 15 weeks. I will be going in at 20 weeks to receive another one, called an anatomy scan to make sure the baby doesn't have any physical defects and to determine the sex. When I had my daughter 18 months ago, I received a total of 9 ultra-sounds during the course of my pregnancy. And both of my pregnancies have been normal. Nothing wrong that would call for extra monitoring.

The first ultra-sound you receive will be around the first visit to determine how far along you are.

Hope this helps!!

If everything is going well then 18-19 weeks.

Sometimes if there is a doubt or bleeding you can get an ultrasound any time after 7 weeks - before that its too small to see.

If you are over 35 and are getting the test for downs that happens between 11 and 13 weeks.

I went as soon as I found out I was pregnant, because I had had some between period bleeding and no period for two months after, the Dr was unsure when I became pregnant. Turned out I was only 6 weeks. Not sure when it is normal to do one though. I have another one next Monday and I will be 12 weeks.

Depends on the practice. My practice likes to check once early on at 2-3 months for growth/heartbeat etc. If everything is ok, usually not again till the 5th month (when they can usually tell sex also).

8 weeks - so you can see the heart beating. The baby looks like a peanut and is extremely small.
