I am currently in a show called Blood Wedding written by Federico garcia Lorca. We are focusing very much on the drama of this play and going for a realistic approach. I am playing the bridegroom, has anyone ever studied or seen this piece? Can you tell me about the bridegroom in any other production?

I saw a great production of this in Sydney 10 years ago. Though I've seen other Lorca plays in other countries also. I'm sure you mean your approaching the acting 'naturalistically' which is different to 'realistic' though you probably realise that. If memory serves me correctly the bridegroom I saw was also played naturalistically, though the production was stylised using spanish song, dance and more expressionistic sections for characters like the Moon. Key relationship for him would be with his mother. How does this relationship affect the rest of his actions and decisions? How can you physically convey the extent of his feelings? Although you're playing this naturalistically, please make sure you use your whole body when creating your character not just working from the head up! Good luck!

This is an allegorical play which should not be played realistically. It is so difficult to produce well, that I am not aware of any successful production of this play. Your director must be an idiot. I have seen one college production of this play at which the entire audience after being bored throughout left saying, "HUH?" I assume the bridegroom has some symbolic meaning relating to the civil war in Spain during the thirties, but I don't know what it is off hand. I would have to study the script to find out. I wish your production well, but I am dismayed that the company is presenting it. I am curious to know what the production group is. Please write to me and let me know. Thanks, Doc
