Listen to Will. They're not so much racist (in general) as they are a sort of closed society. I have a friend who was born in Japan, is a japanese citizen and lived all but about 5 years of her life in japan. Thanks to those 5 years, other japanese consider her "gaijin" (basically a foreigner). I don't think that's exactly racism, she's the same race as they are.

Narutokyubi,

Let me begin by saying that I am of mixed race, and lived in Japan for 6 1/2 years. The Japanese are unique, in that they are one of the few countries in the world, which enjoy racial singularity, and a common cultural history which goes back for several thousand years. To say that there is not a racial barrier in Japan, would be inaccurate. If you are not Japanese, you are going to be looked at a little differently. Period. This would happen in any country with a similar cultural history, and racial make up. Having said that, it is possible to be accepted, and appreciated in their culture. I found, that if you make an effort to learn the language, customs, and habits of Japanese life, they have a deep sense of appreciation for this. Everywhere I went in Japan, in the big cities, and in the deep rural areas, I was met with great curiousity, respect, and hospitality I have never before encountered. The stories of hospitality that I could tell, would fill volumes. You can never be Japanese. You can have many dear Japanese friends, who will stick with you for life. They are generous, helpful, and love to laugh, when it is appropriate. I suggest you read the novel by James Clavell, called Shogun. It will give you a better picture of the Japanese mind, and their sense of honor and duty, than anything I can think of. It is about 2000 pages, but it will be worth it, if you can get past the first 150 pages. By all means, if you have the chance to do so, go to Nippon. You will never be the same.

I hope not. I love Japan and Japanese men and I wanna move there someday. All I know is they do have their stereotypes against Chinese and Koreans so they probably will stereotype us.

true they are hateful to anyone without their physical characteristics.
they hate black people maybe not all because there are those Japanese that will sport all the hip-hop fashion, wear the Nikes and even get perms to get their hair kinky. but I still hated the feeling of being twice their height and not fitting in their cars.
