Liberals support them. Plain and simple.

The objections come from the problem of identifying terrorists before the calls are tapped. Some in the government want to listen in on ALL calls as a way to identify terrorists. This is a clear invasion of privacy. If you agree with this, ask yourself how far you would let it go? Would you find it alright for the police to stop you on the street, detain, search, and interview whenever they wanted to in an attempt to stop terrorism? You may also wish to consider that what we consider terrorism is really just the beliefs of others which do not agree with our own. As you can NEVER stop people from believing what they want, "terrorism" can never be stopped.

So if giving up all of the rights guaranteed to us by the Bill of Rights catches terrorists, your for that?
I myself do not think it is good to give up the rights that make Americans Americans to catch terrorists. Terrorists attack us because of our rights, but isn't giving up our rights to fight them defeating the purpose?
So if you have nothing to hide, would you be okay with all of your phone records were printed in the paper for everyone to see?

If the government thinks someone is a terrorist, they could legally tap their phone and get a search warrant later.
But since Bush hates the constitution, he won't even do that As it is, Bush is spying on everyone, not just suspected "terrorists".

You do know the difference between a terrorist and a suspect don't you?
There is no problem with listening to phonecalls of terrorists, but if you have enough evidence to suggest that you need to listen to their phonecalls, there isn't any reason a judge wouldn't sign the warrant, permitting it.
These days, unless you are a Bush appointee, you can be suspected of being a terrorist.
Would not the terrorists consider it a victory that we are giving up our way of life, because we are affraid of them, if they hate us for our freedom?
"you have nothing to fear, if you have nothing to hide," is the central dogma of fascism.

We can listen to phone calls of terrorists. Our government can get warrants for wiretaps. What we don't want is for our government to be able to wiretap anyone at the whim of the people in office, or the people who operate the taps.
"Liberals" as you call them, are people who are standing up for the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
We can't forget who we are and what we stand for. We are Americans, and we stand for democracy, and justice. If we allow the terrorists to scare us into a fascist government they win. They are called "terrorists" for a reason, they use terror to influence peoples behavior.
Don't fall for it.

Liberals aren't trying to stop all wiretaps, just illegal wire taps--there's a legal process the government must go through before doing it, which has been ignored. That's all. That process ensures the likelihood that there's good cause to suspect the people being wiretapped are, in fact, terrorists. Without that just cause, wiretapping is a violation of our constitutional right to privacy.

Because that most recent reports showed that most of the wire tapping done was on non-terrorists threats. It was used to gain a political advantage of the Dems. I don't trust my govt. to have that much power, dem. or rep.

Who gets to define terrorist?
According to Bush, any american who does not fully support the war in iraq is a potential terrorist.
His newest executive order, makes it illegeal to protest the war in iraq...
Are we terrorists? or are we AMERICAN CITIZENS who have an opinion different than our rulling tyrant?
FYI, it isnt just the 'liberals' who are standing up for our CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS... Many CONSERVATE REPUBLICANS want to PRESERVE our constitution...
Ron Paul is one Republican on the ballot who is trying to keep our country free.. Free from our own government's control.

are you still for it if the government is listening to YOUR phone calls? and checking YOUR computer? and asking the librarian what books YOU are reading? It really comes down to whether you trust the government to decide who they should be spying on. History tells us that the government can't always be counted on to know where to draw the line. That is why we need to require warrants. It's not that hard to get a warrant.
