You can't do it online. In fact, if there is a Will you can't do it at all. Generally, the information is released to the Executor. Confidentiality and protection against identity theft are just two reasons why you won't get access to her bank accounts, even with documentation as to your relationship - Mother/child - and of her death.

So, unless you bring the Executor along your search may be unproductive and frustrating.

You can contact the IRS and get the information as to where she had the account. You may also be able to do that with your state Department of Revenue. You will likely have to prove who you are as well as provide them with the notarized death certificate. Otherwise, you can go to:
www.missingmoney.com
It won't be there right away but you may find some other money she didn't even know about before she died. There is no cost to go to that website and give it a try. Also, you should be able to snoop around a little around the house and find some kind of bank statements. Do you have other brothers & sisters? Is so, you better all do this together. Don't even think about "finders keepers" on an inheritance.

No bank can legally give you any information about her account unless you have been named executor of her estate. You need to send a copy of the death certificate and court documents naming you executor to the bank to get access to her accounts. If you are not sure what bank she used, sent the required information to every bank in the area.

depends on what state you live in.

in california, the state treasurer has a site where assets like this or lost tax refunds, closed banks accounts etc. are.

but just to find bank accounts...not possible...now if you know where she banked you could go there with the death certificate and see what you need to do.

good luck

You really need a lawyer in a small law office.
Cost 2-500 dollars.

Just get her checks at her house. Then go to the bank. :)
