you could start with nothing, just an illmatic album, and make all of hip hop and rap basing yourself on illmatic

Illmatic is better to me, because thats what established Nas as one of the greatest lyrcists of all time, even more impressive is that he was only 19 when he recorded this album, also he delivered a classic album with only 10 songs..countless numbers of classic verses on this album..Stillmatic is a great album in its own right; but i prefer illmatic.

I'd have to say illmatic. It was short but it's just straight grimey, and for a cd that was slept on until years later after it came out explains it all. He was creative, and real. The beats were somewhat soft but it went perfect with his descriptive lyrics. It only had10 tracks but it was worth the money and the time to just sit and listen to it all.
Still matic was good, it was his greatest comeback, but I can still til this day listen to every track without even getting tired of it on illmatic.

Man, Illmatic is my favorite CD of all time! I say this because it came out during a time when hip hop was still alive and thriving. I was a B-girl. Me and all my girls rocked baggy clothes, and had our headphones on after school. Rap was so good to me during this time.

i like em both but illmatic bcuz thats wat brought him into the game and made him big. It was alot more important than stillmatic
the dude below me (taxx collector) is reatrded to say nas sux and ppl like him r the reason that crappy rappers wit good beats and stupid lyrics r gettin more popular now
