I think if you get 3 boxes.
1 I love this dress and will keep it.
2 This is no good anymore for any of us to wear & would be no use for anyone else. So chuck it out.
3 This could be good for someone else , that is less fortunate than us, So I shall donate this to charity.
So your closet is half empty allready. You will have more room to store your family´s clothes the way you would really like it to be . And less depressed every time you go there to get something to wear.

Anything you haven't worn in a year needs to be sorted out and delivered to either the Salvation Army or Goodwill if they are clean and in good repair. Make a list of everything so you can get a receipt for a tax write off. Do this on a regular basis. Find more efficient ways to hang the clothes using things like drop bars where multiple items can hang down in one space. Be sure everyone is responsible, except for toddlers of course, for hanging up and putting clothes in their proper places. Just being responsible makes a difference but continue to get rid of what you don't need. Clothes should never be on the floor. Dirty clothes belong in a basket, clean clothes need to be hung whether they need to be ironed later or not.

I agree, One day I got so fed up, that I took everything out of the closet, (all day job)
You start with the clothes you really use, and put then back in, then you take the clothes you know you have'nt used in the past year, and donate them to an organization who will give them to others , less fortunate than us. WOW!!!!!!!! what a difference. Now with what you have left you decide Do I really want this, or not.
After hanging up everything, you start with the shoes, I took the boxes and put labels on them for each pair of shoes, Black, white etc now I don't have to look in everyone when I'm looking for a pair. They go on the bottom of the closet. I have hooks in back of the closet, where I hang my pocket books. You did a great job, Now go pour yourself a nice glass of wine and put your feet up and enjoy the evening.oops, After summer give you babies clothes to the poor also, or maybe to a friend who has a new baby.

start by sorting through everything and get rid of anything that hasn't been worn say...in three months and everything that doesn't really fit (make allowances for seasonal clothing). Donate to Goodwill or Value Village...
Once you've downsized a bit it will be easier to organize what you have left over.
Hang everything you can, group together shirts, pants, dresses etc...and separate each family members clothes. "this is your side of the closet, this is mine"...
Do the same with dresser drawers, group socks, underwear, t-shirts etc. This is my drawer, this is yours....it will take some time but once you're finished I bet you'll never let it get so overwhelmingly out of control again!
Good luck

Get organized! first rid yourself of clothes that have not been worn in a year. Give to Good Will or whatever charity you like. Next color coordinate your clothes. whites with whites, blues with blues, reds with reds, You get the picture. when you want something to wear this kind of organization is best. You will be able to find anything at a glance. If you feel like black that day it is easy to find of if it is red you are seeking it is a snap. I found if you get a friend to help you it is easier. They will help you get rid of all those excess clothes. Buy the book looking good with Linda Dano. I live by it. Have fun cleaning out the closet!

I go through my kids closets every season and pull out anything thye can't or don't wear and bag it up. Then I take it to the nearest school or daycare center cause they always have the need for extra clothes if a child has an accident or has already used up all of their extras for the day. For adult or childrens clothes, you can always take them to a homeless shelter cause those people would love to have some nice stuff.

Get rid of the things you don't wear, and things that are too small for the baby (if you have any such). Get a plastic bin and use that to store the things that are out of season. There are a number of very good closet organizers available in department and home decorating stores: Consider getting them. And get the family members who are big enough to pitch in: You shouldn't have to do all this by yourself.
Good luck!

gather up the ones you haven't seen anybody wear, cut them into small pieces, and make a quilt. Or, I used to have my children try each piece on to see if it even fits, and if they like it. If not, then donate them to the united way, or salvation army. Maybe they are nice enough to have a garage sale with, but thats alot more work. Just be sure that everytime you buy a new piece of clothing, throw another out.

Donate the extras.
Don't waste your time with extra stuff around the house.
Somebody else would love to have it.
