Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart are excellent musicians. Jerry Garcia was very good. The band nevertheless relied heavily on its lyric writer Bob Hunter. I always thought they were entertaining as much as the deadheads were entertaining.

Having had the chance to see The Dead, The Allman Brothers, and The Band perform at Watkins Glen in the early 70's, I can only say....Hell yes!

Yes. They were great. Great musicians, music, people. They did everything how they wanted to and treated their community as family.
It still bothers me when I hear ignorant people who stereotype the Dead and only can come up with drug references to them. Those people are the lazy ones, talking about something they know nothing of. they can kiss my @ss, not on the left side, not on the right, but right in the middle.
The music never stopped.

Yes, but listening to their music makes me feel like a lazy hippie, or high on cocaine.
Peace :)
