Do not cut the branch flush with the tree, as it hampers with the naturaul healing process. Cut on a slight angle (to adoid water from pooling on the wound) about an inch from the trunk. Do not paint anything over the wound as a correct cut will encourage natrual healing. If there is epecormic growth from the cut its just a matter of pinching it of and eventually it will stop....best of luck

there is a 'bump' or 'thick area' at the place where the branch connects with the part of the tree it's growing from, the trunk or another bigger branch... cut thru that area and the wound will heal faster, better and without 'paint stuff'..... that part is called the 'branch collar' if you'd like to look it up....and the pictures here will show you more about where it is and how to cut...

when you cut there, it's much less likely to send out shoots ever again from that spot....

Put it in the fireplace and burn it :)

Depends on the type tree for one thing. Also time of the year will greatly matter. There's a black paint sold at nurseries that you paint over the wound on the tree and it is supposed to heal it and prevent further sprouts.

good luck
