Are you talking about a booking agent? Generally it's 5-10% of your gig revenue, but it's all negotiable. If you can, get two or more agents bidding against each other before you sign with anyone, to get the most advantageous deal.

an agent won't cost you anything out of pocket but they have to see you play and think you are great.Good does not cut it.There are tons of good bands out there already.some are great and can't seem to get past the bar scene and garages.Agents take percentages of what you make.
You say young....are you talking as in still in school young? if so you really need to take your head out of the clouds and just concentrate on being a kid and studying and doing the band stuff when you have the time.I have a 13 year old who plays guitar, bass and keyboards and he is exceptionaly great on guitar for a 13 year old.He has taken a Randy Rhoades and jimi hendrix style since these two are his favorite guitarists but I would never sell him a hoop dream in music and tell him he will make it for sure.I preach studying and acedemics and encourage him to think of a music school when he graduates and advised him on the many careers there are in the music scene without actually being in the spotlight on stage.Good luck and i hope you take this advice seriously.

You have to interview and ask the agents how much they charge. You can't expect a generic answer.
