It depends if it's pale watery pink spotting or actual bleeding and even then there is no way to tell 100% for sure. My mother had such heavy bleeding with my youngest brother that she had to use a towel and lay down for two weeks! Turned out it must have been a twin or something because my brother was born 10 lb 8! Her biggest healthiest baby. I know everyone says to go to the doctor but only do that if it's bleeding. If it's spotting and they do scans and internals it can encourage a bleed. Ask her to take a pregnancy test every couple of days to check on levels. She might be fine, she might not be.

Sometimes as your body is changing as a result of pregnancy, there can be bleeding. I had that happen in my first pregnancy, and the doctor said it was because the plecenta was shifting across my cervix. I was told not to have sex for 2 weeks, and to come back in. Another ultrasound showed that the placenta had moved and everything was fine.

If she is only bleeding a little bit (like after sex or an an exam) than I would not owrry just yet. If she started bleeding heavily, then she should get in contact with her doctor immediately - this can be done by calling the OBGYNE anytime of day or night, the answering service can get hold of the doctor if there is a problem and he will call her back.

I had a little two-day bleed with my second son at about six weeks (at the time I took it for a light period because I didn't know I was pregnant - I was still nursing my first son and hadn't started menstruating yet). It threw things off when I finally found out I was pregnant because I considered it my last period but it was actually "implantation bleeding".

It's always good to have things checked out though - but as long as she's not bleeding heavily, cramping or feverish she's probably fine.

My son was full term, a little small (5 and a half pounds) but perfectly healthy.

i bled at around 6 weeks... then at 10 weeks i bled heavily again and fleshy clots came out . Not a good sign although, curiously i didnt have any pains at all. I was taken to hospital, examined by a doctor and was told that it was 90% certain that i was having a miscarriage. I remained in hospital for 3 days waiting for a scan to confirm that i had miscarried.

I had a scan and low and behold, the baby was fine!! I am now 27 weeks pregnant.

I asked about this on YA and was told by several people that it was LIKELY that i possibly initially conceived twins, and that the second child simply hadnt developed properly. Its quite common.

Like you, nothing like this happened to me during my first pregnancy.

I understand your friend;s concern, bleeding could signify miscarriage, but then again, many expectant mothers bleed (like myself) and then go on to have perfectly healthy pregnancies. As difficult as it is, there is really no point in worrying. If she loses the baby at this stage, it means that the baby didnt form properly anyway, and so it wouldnt have being a viable life. I am sure your friend wants a healthy baby.

Please tell your friend to try not to fret, its not possible to predict - sometimes bleeding is a bad sign (especially if accompanied by pain), sometimes it means nothing. Try to help her carry on life as normal. Good luck

Tell your friend not to worry too much as you did say a little bleed.
If it was huge amounts, and with clots, and tummy ach, then yes I would be concerned,
Some mothers bleed all the way through pregnancy, while others still have a monthly cycle!
She doing the right thing going docs, they'll sort her out in no time,
give her my best wishes,

hi. i have 2 girls and with both of them i bleed at exactly 6 weeks it was only a little. i guess it depends on how much she is bleeding. Both my girls are healthy. So i guess she will have to wait til tomorrow to find out what is wrong, or she could go to the ER and been seen sooner. Good luck and i hope everything is ok.

Does she have any cramping, vomiting or fever with it? Is yes then I would go right to the ER if not then I wouldnt worry. I bleed through my pregnancy. My body was to little to carry it and with the pressure it was putting on my body it made me spot and I was on bed rest. I hope everything is okay. Best of luck to her!

She needs to take action so I'm glad she's going to the doctor.
My bleeding was caused by placenta previa and I had to spend the rest of my pregnancy in hospital because of the risk of hemorrhage.
I hope she's ok. I was after wonderful care.
