This is nothing new and it happens every year. There's no way the Yankees could do right. If they were 20 games ahead, people would say they "bought it", when they are behind, they call it "overpriced & bloated" or simply, "they suck".
These people do not see what has developed over the course of the year and why they are where they are. April saw a laundry list of injuries, especially Phil Hughes who, along with Wang, would make the starting rotation younger and more durable.
April, half of May and half of June contributed to the sub-500 record and the hole in which they are digging themselves out of.
They were 14.5 games behind in June, 10 at the All-Star Break and now 6.5. That's a big jump, especially when one of those "cupcake" teams was the Angels.
"Cupcake" refers to sub-500 teams who seem to be pretty dangerous when it comes to September, as they love being the spoilers.
If you could say anything and be correct, you could say it's far too early to write off New York. Last year they were in the same position as chasers most of the year and didn't reach First Place until late August. Whereas, the big mouth people that who spouted the same jargon watched the Boston Massacre II and Red Sox Nation miss the playoffs and come in second. The Yankees obviously were taken out by the Tigers and the Tigers were defeated by a barely 500 team in the World Series (strange, eh?).
It's fair to say you've got two extremely talented teams that both pack a punch both pitching and slugging when firing on all cylinders.
Kids will be kids though, succumbing to rhetoric without much in the way of facts and knowledge.
That one answer is baffling... we need a salary cap to balance a 162 game schedule? Huh? Ok, how is MLB going to be able to determine who is going to be in what place all year? Tampa Bay actually has a lot of talent. Why they can't gel, who knows? I'm pretty sure Royals fans are saying the opposite..."It's unbalanced that we have to play tough teams!" Ok, then...grow up.
The Yankees payroll has never been 251 Million, LP, go do some research.
MrGlitch makes a good valid point regarding KC/TB.

well that is what got me mad when the Yankees defeat the royals the last 3 games its like oh there the royals they suck there playing teams under five hundred and well the royals took 2 of 3 from the red sox , the mariners and the tigers so when they beat these teams the royals get credit but when the Yankees beat them its like nothing well who cares because the Yankees are showing there a team that other teams don't want to mess with

Well, we don't have much imagination, either. We just say "26 World Championships." Then again, what else do we have to say?
What exactly do the Twins rule? And as for getting to within five games... at the rate the Yankees are going, they'll finish five games AHEAD of the Red Sox.

I dont know where you get cupcake schedule all i know is that the Kansas City Royals suck and the Yankees are playing teams that havent been in the playoffs in a decade. The devil rays never have had a winning season. And if you wanna think how unfair the schedule is that when you add up the salaries of Jeter 19 mil, clemens 28 mil i think and what arods is going to be 30 mil it comes out to be higher then the entire payroll of the Devil Rays.
Also the Royals dont just suck its the whole thing the white sox , orioles, drays, and blue jays. The yankees play the royals three times in the second half thats just dumb. The devil rays and orioles are played 4 times combined in the month of september alone. Something needs to be done because the schedule is just too unbalanced. WE NEED A SALARY CAP.

Hey Mr Smartypants, if the Yankees sucked they wouldn't be in the hunt for the Division title. They will win the Division and show up the Sox. Yankees r a good team. Stop making excuses.

You forgot the fact that KC also beat Detroit 2 out of 3
AND
Tampa beat Detroit 2 out of 3...
Yankees have also done well against some of the better teams (above .500) including 3-0 vs. the Indians, 3-0 vs. the Diamondbacks and 5-2 vs. Minnesota. When the Yanks were bad, they couldn't beat anyone and when they are hot, like right now, they can beat everyone.
Cupcake schedule, my ***.

Wow. This is easily the 5th or so question I've seen that's whined about yankee haters talking about their cupcake schedule. You Yanks/Sox fans are truly running out of good material for your arguments. This stuff's getting lame.

smarty pants your dumb. yankee fan your right. every AL team has to play every other AL team the only difference in the schedule is your division games. but dont worry starting Aug 10 we will shut em all up when we play cleveland, detroit, LA, and boston. dont get much tougher than that.

Its not the Yankees fault if the owners of these bad teams don't care for their teams & their fanbase & prefer to keep the money they make for themselves instead of using it to improve their teams.
