I have an nx9010 the headphone slot is green the microphone slot is pink if that is what you mean. Underneath is the battery Go to hp.com and look up your particular computer and you can get the details, and if you need drivers and tech support.

This might be a spot to put Compact Flash, or SD media storage cards. It could also just be a vent slot to help keep the machine cool. Unfortunately, I own an Armada 700 and a Evo N600c so my Compaq's physical configurations differ from yours.
