I seem to have somehow cleaned off some of the coating on my screen. It has gone clear in some parts and blotchy in others. Is this possible? How do I fix it?

I used a yellow duster thing which had residual furniture polish on it. I didn't even rub it hard. It looks a bit like it bubbled but the surface is absolutely smooth all over.

Sorry you can not fix it.

To clean a screen you need to use a soft cloth (cotton, microfiber, etc) dampened with a little water or with a soft soap (liquid hand soap) solution.

I am guessing that the polish has attached the anti-reflective layer on the screen and pulled it off. It also could have been cleaned with something more aggressive in the past which has loosened the bond of the coat to the glass, and now the mechanical action of rubbing has pulled off the loose bits.

I have seen this done with Windex+paper towels, so it does not take much.

Buy a new one - no point in repairing it - try not to use wire wool to clean it next time ;-p

Seriously though - I shudder when I see people use ANYTHING other than a dry anti-static cloth or the same cloth with anti-static screen cleaner.
One of the guys in the office uses the stuff the cleaner keeps in the cleaning cupboard - I am SURE that is meant to remove more than a bit of dust!
