I would have to say I am a moderate, although I don't like to spend, I do recognize that spending is necessary, and when it is, it should be controlled. If we charge too much on credit you need to increase taxes to pay it fast and lower it when it's paid off.

I don't know where people get the idea that the government should conduct any different fiscally than a regular person.

I am a fiscal conservative. Governments at all levels take too much tax money from me.

I am a moderate. I believe the government does have a role to play in collecting and allocating tax dollars. I believe they are very wasteful and inefficient, but that is mostly our fault for how poorly we educate ourselves on candidates.

I don't see how it makes any sense to provide for people who could provide for themselves if they cared to work harder. I believe that politicans love to use our tax dollars to buy the loyalty and love of the voters. That has gotten out of hand and we are to blame for letting that situation develop.

Every suggestion to moderated or change a program is met with a furious response by the affected parties. The media then picks up on that creates distorted news stories that have the effect of marginalizing those who suggest change. In that scenario an small increase in funding becomes a "cut" and children and poor people get portrayed as hanging by a thread.

We are stuck with what we have, but the danger signs are everywhere that the jig is up.

conservative. however, if we had the fair tax, the better our economy does the more money the government will get. but until the government collects revenue based on consumption rather than achievement, we have to cut spending and programs

I am only a law abiding tax paying, independent, voting citizen who depends on elected officials to do the right thing. Unfortunately I am disappointed quite often by my fellow voters and the ones put in office, an example is the voters who elected Bush and Bush himself.

Then you're talking about the wrong spectrum.

Liberal versus conservative is a social-issues spectrum.

Economics and taxation are on a different political spectrum, with fiscal conservatives and libertarians at one end, and neo-cons and socialists at the other end.

All those people who answered socially liberal and fiscally conservative might want to check out the Libertarian party, since that is their platforn, -- http://www.lp.org
