I only use tampons with panty liners. I detest pads.
I use tampons from the time I notice Im starting until my flow finishes.

You can start wearing one when you notice you got your period, but if it's light, use the junior tampons, because they're smaller and lighter.
However! If you dislike both tampons and pads [I hate both] you can go to www.divacup.com and check out the Diva Cup. It's a great thing to have. You never have to throw it out until you're 35 or have a baby. And you'll save lots of money on tampons and pads.

wait until the flow gets alittle heavier. if you have never worn a tampon before the are great. less change of leaking through your pants, you an go swimming, and they feel more comfortable but they might take a while to get use to. if you use them start on a lower absorbancy until you get use to inserting them. and just make sure you change them like every 4-5 hours and it would be better to wear pads at night.

Because you never wore a tampon, maybe u shoud try it when u dont have ur period to see how u like it. If its comfortable, ur next period, u can wear it but if its not comfortable, then u can stick to pads. However, if u do choose tampons, choose the ones with leak protection. I know u wouldn't want to leak on your period. best of Luck.

Wait until you are comfortable to wear one. With it being your first period, I'd wait. I didnt start wearing tampons until I became sexually active just because it felt uncomfortable and I wasnt used to having anything up there. When you do decide to wear one, make sure you are careful and put it in correctly.

wear a tampon when ur in a pool or lake you can also wear a pad playing sports
PS dont wear pads in water because when i was little this girl wore a pad in a lake and she was constantly wringing it out. it waz gross and all of my friends were laughing at her. i know that was mean but she kinda imbarrased herself.
you dont want to be that girl, do you
