I'd tell them a couple of things.

1. A billion red Chinese don't care whether or not you beat county high this year. If you do, great. Enjoy it. Rip down the goal posts. But keep it in perspective.

2. Speaking of which, anyone you meet 5 years from now will not care that they called you Mr. Touchdown. That also goes for the prom queen, Most Popular, etc., as well. The bright side is, they're not going to care that you tanked Algebra, either.

3. Kids who haven't quite found their niche, don't sweat it. It will come, and when it does, you will be cool. Why will you be cool? Because you will no longer care if anyone thinks you're cool.

4. Peer pressure doesn't let up, but you'll handle it better.

5. Last, girls, any teenage boy who tells you he loves you is lying. I know. I was once a teenage boy.

Anyone else have any particular nuggets of wisdom to share?

Be nice, please.

Well done...good points. I would add:

never treat the quiet, shy kid like he is some horrible creature, or he just may become one....

never miss out on any function, club activity, or event...carpe' diem in school....you will never return to this day and time and will always remember it...

learn what the teachers offer...and learn from each other....knowledge is power...and a learned people are never enslaved...

Oh, I like yours very much!

My daughter is going to high school this year; I have told her:

"Your education will last you a lifetime, it is the key to your dreams. The cute boy sitting behind you can derail all of your dreams, if you let him get you alone. You have the rest of your life to get married and settle down, let's not lose sight of the objective here, which is a good college."

Whatever you do in school this year, do not ever put anything off until the last minute! I did last year and my grades weren't exactly the ones I was hoping for.

The same things my dad always told me. Modeled behavior passed along.
Do your best
Keep your promises
Have fun
It's not about failing, it's about trying. Effort.
