Rescue operations are the responsibility of local and state governments. If a governor declares a state of emergency, then the state may request federal help.

How many Katrina victims did you help out? When a lot of those people did receive help, do think they were thankful? FEMA sent them TEMPORARY homes for shelter and all they did was complain because they were too small or a year later they were getting sick from the smell of them. They were recreational vehicles slapped together to help these people out. Or what about the people who were invited to stay at shelters and personal homes in Michigan and when were given food, paid for by others out of their hard earned income, complained because it wasn't pizza.
I'm so tired of hearing about New Orleans and how nobody helped after Katrina... blah .... blah ... blah! Show some appreciation for the help they got.
With any luck the next time the place will sink into the Gulf of Mexico.

The flooding in UK, while not entitely unexpected, nevertheless, happened with rapid speed and took most people completely by surprise.
I'm hearing things about flooding which I never knew before. Some folk saying that the river near where they are living had not actually burst it's banks, yet water was coming up into their houses through the floor boards. Wierd or what?
In the early days of the flooding, it was thought that the problem of money would be taken care of by the insurance companies. Obviously this is taking too long and the UK.gov have already moved in with cash payments to help the least better off in the first instance.
We now seem to have more houses in flood plains than ever before.
Anywhere with a word like 'marsh' as part of it's name is immediately suspect.
"Doctor Foster went to Glouster in a shower of rain,
He trod in a puddle right up to his middle and never went there again."
Someone in the 19th century was trying to give us a warning. We should take heed of these.
Why is anyone living near the Wash? Tells you something!

"OK, Brains. Tell us what the response should be. How is the government going to stop it raining and send all that nasty water back into the sea where it belongs?"
The government had been warned for YEARS that it was going to happen and did nothing. Is that okay with you?
"Or do you want your taxes to be given to people who can make a nice little profit when they make their insurance claim?"
First of all, taxes don't go to pay insurance claims!!! People make monthly payments to insurance companies and the settlements are paid out of them. That's what insurance is FOR. Do you have car insurance? If you get in an accident, will you want them to pay? Yeah, I thought so. It works the same way.
Second of all, insurance settlements aren't a profit, they are to make up for what people lost that was covered by insurance.
"Explain your master plan.
EDIT: There are water shortages because water treatment plants have been flooded and drinking water contaminated with sewage water.
So your genius policy is to give money to the people who have been flooded? Stunning. And what do you propose that they do with this money?"
Yes, because the government KNEW this would happen and did NOTHING.
They can do anything they want with the money, like eat, pay for a place to live, etc. Yes, it's SO extravagant of them to want to eat!
If something this terrible happened to YOU, you'd be singing a different tune!

You can not compare Katrina to that flood. It was a much greater loss, and the American outreach may of been slow, but it was huge and there is still funds channeling to New Orleans.

Too much dishonesty all around, lack of love for one another, who can you call on that has proven themselves on the Gov.side or aid organizations.Look at their record,as well as many of the victims when they got themselves organized to get their hands into the till. Theres also no loyalty.

Too many people rely on the government to take care of them. The only people you can rely on is yourself and your family. First responders has always been Mayor, Governor and then they have to call in to the President before he can help. Of course the red cross is one of the first to help out.

Most of the large contracts were given to companies from OUTSIDE New Orleans
Bush's friends sure didnt waste time getting money from your tax dollars on contracts though

Do not degrade your Government to that extent. These UK floods we learn have come after 60 years, so complacency can not be ruled out.
