Okay just to clarify I do have a license, I just dont have the physical card. I know my license number and if I do get pulled over a cop can look it up that I do have a valid license. I just dont have the card.

Not yet... but with the "Real I.D." act, I wouldn't doubt if that happens in a couple years.

California State Borders

LOL....um....we are living in a free nation and we don't have border checks. But you should know that if you are stopped driving without a license you will have the car taken away from you at that point unless you have an insured licensed driver in the car with you. So you just have to ask yourself "do you feel lucky?".

In most states, no.

However, the California-Oregon border is one of a few where there are checkpoints on the highway for agricultural control.

Usually, they only ask if you are transporting produce, without doing any other type of license check. But that doesn't mean they couldn't.

No they don't. Unless you run into like a DWI check point, but they are rare. However, there is always a chance of you getting pulled over for a traffic violation. And if you are caught without a valid license, you will probably go to jail.

There are no checkpoints, but if you get stopped, you may go to jail without a valid license.

( I've never driven through california, but the other 49 states don't do it. By the way, you are talking about california, a state that does not want identification mandatory for elections)

Looks like your question has been answered above, but just so you are aware, there are other things to consider when traveling across state lines.

They are imaginary lines, so to speak, but should you cross one in possession of the wrong thing, you will suffer more sever consequences because of the line cross.

For instance fireworks, cannabis, illegal drugs, sometimes even children.

Of course, there are plenty of other things to worry about, but don't expect to see some check point situation at the border.
Unless you are at the southern border going in to Mexico.

and I would suggest dodgin' ol smokie if you must do the traveling

No they will not check your driver's license because you are crossing the border. However, if you get pulled and have no license or a license number then you are screwed. They could confiscate your car and put you in jail.

I have driven through many states and never been stopped at checkpoints. Depends on the state and their laws though. But, usually you won't be arrested, unless you have no other means of identifying yourself. If you are stopped, you will get a ticket; however, you can usually appear in court with your driver's license and get a reduced fine. You best have proof of insurance (and hope that it covers uninsured drivers, unless it includes you) and the registration papers.

N O, but a valid drivers license is needed in order
to drive a car in the USA and if you are stopped without a drivers license, you will be fined and your car will be impounded and you can be arrested and go to jail!!

There is not a checkpoint going in to Oregon. The checkpoint going in to California is operated by the California Department of Agriculture, not the highway patrol. However you can get stopped for something as stupid as a burned out bulb and end up in jail.
