No telling how long Plecos live. I know breeders in FL that claim to have some over 25 years... but... who really knows. I think based on other fish for which we have more data 15-20 years average would be a good estimate if well cared for.

You have a common pleco. Mine is currently 12", but we have some at work that are easily +24". If you have a big tank it will live for a very long time. I think somewhere in the 15 year range would be about right for one in an aquarium. I have no doubt they live longer in lakes and ponds in southern Florida.

There are many types of plecostomus, commonly called, plecos. Here is a link that shows many different types. See if you can identify yours by one of these pictures. Plecos generally live 10 -15 years if well-taken care of.
