Because of the fermentation process and the active cultures in yogurt it's easier to digest than regular milk. I too was worried about giving my baby yogurt, but I read up on it and also talked to other moms. They started giving their babies yogurt between 6 and 12 months. I started at 7 months.
You can try the Yo'baby brand of yogurt which is supposed to be for babies. I would steer clear of the berry flavored ones before your son's first birthday.
I also recommend Greek style plain (full-fat) yogurt. It's not as tart as other plain yogurts. I mix this type of yogurt with a fruit puree.
My son loves both the yo'baby and the plain yogurt with fruit puree (I tried both and they do taste pretty good).
Good luck!

7 months is the recommended age for yogurt. Make sure it is whole milk plain yogurt. If you want to sweeten it up for your baby, try mixing in some fresh fruit puree.

It was always my understanding that they shouldn't be given any dairy product unitl 12 mo. of age due to increased risk of allergies.(my kids are 6, 4 and 3, so it's been a while since I had an infant). I would say, if you or someone in your family has any allergies to foods, then wait. If not, then its up to you. I don't think your doctor would tell you it was ok if he/she didn't think it was, but you'er the mom- its your call.

I was told the same thing to help out with yeast when my baby was younger 6 months and I had no problem. It helped with the yeast a lot.

Yogurt is more easily digested than milk. It's okay now if you're comfortable with it.

I give my 6 month old yogurt in her cereal in the morning (YoBaby), she loves it.
My sister-in-law has been giving her baby YoBaby since he was 4 months old (that's all the "solids" that he would eat).
