Depending on how well you trust your doctor. I thought I could trust my doctor and Told her I wanted to AVOID a c section, well she kept saying me too me too, well when i went into labor she kept putting me on pitocin which EVERY TIME made both my heart rate and my sons heart rate drop so bad they ended up kicking everyone out ripping my panties off and putting a heart monitor up into me on my babies head an rushed me into a c section. Then when my son had to have a circumcision she WACKED his "fore skin off" Without my permission (I wanted the bell so it wouldnt be soo bad) then I had to clean and keep ointment on it and look at it while listening to him screem in pain. Needless to say she didnt cut it off right so now at 11 1/2 months he has to go in and have it RECUT. I dont trust any 1 word at all because the entire time he was going to his 3 months check up I kept making my doctor look at it and my doctor said it was fine and looked right. Then I finally had another opinion and got a new Doctor who said there is TOO much fore skin left on, it will cause him to be sensitive to infection then he ended up with a yeast infection. Sorry to tell my story but I would recommend getting a second opinion go in to the er and see what they say. The worse they can do is make you stay or send you home.

Sciatica just means that something is irritating the sciatic nerve - it's just a description. There are lots of things that can cause sciatica (although a lot of chiropractors, midwives and physiotherapists don't think that pregnancy causes sciatica per se) but you're not likely to get much info from your obstetrician or gp other than some pain pills and advice to rest. (Believe me, this is from personal experience - I was given a big prescription for Tylenol Three at seven months when I couldn't walk without a cane and had numbness down my right leg).

If the pain is mild (meaning you can still walk and stand without too much discomfort) icing for ten minutes three times a day and some mild exercise will help (lie on your back and raise each knee gently to your chest ten times each - repeat a few times a day).

If the pain is severe and you have a hard time lifting your legs (for example, to climb stairs or get into bed) or if you have numbness you may have what I had - it's called PGP (pelvic girdle pain) When you become pregnant your body releases a hormone called relaxin that allows your ligaments to soften so that your pelvic bones can spread to allow the baby to come out. Sometimes (especially when you have two pregnancies close together) the relaxin works too well. When this happens the ligaments stretch too much too early and the muscles of your hips and lower back are forced to try to hold your pelvis together to allow you to walk. This causes tightness and pain in your muscles and can cause pressure on the sciatic nerve. My pelvic bones were so loose that my poor husband could hear them grind together when I turned over in bed - a scary sound for both of us.

Chiropractic, exercise and ice are the only things that helped me - the pain meds just made me groggy, and massage actually made it worse. I had my last adjustment two days before the baby was born, and started them again as soon as I was home.

The pain was gone as soon as my son was born, but it took a few months for the weakness to resolve.

Try the website below and look for PGP or sciatica for lots of good information.

Good luck!

Hello there,
You usually only get sciatic pain down the one leg , not both at the same time,Also it seems too early in your pregnancy to get sciatic pain.
If you are getting pains at the bottom of your back like a period pain, that is when you need to have any worriesl.
This can come and go, but if it gets severe then you need to seek help.
Obviously you will go to see your GP.tomorow.
Go by your own instincts the GP does not know everything.
You will now how your own body feels whether it feels right or not.

Everyone has there own happenings .if yours does not feel right seek help.
You are entitled to it.
I wish you all the very best of luck.
Don't be afraid to ask for any help.
Take care and look after yourself.
Don't forget nhs direct are only nurses on the end of a phone.
they are not qualified midwifes who deal with your problem all of the time.
Good Luck

it could be. it means that there is pressure on the sciatic nerve causing pain. i had it in my first pregnancy and my leg kept giving way. i would go to your GP tomorrow and get it checked. it could be sciatica but it could be something more serious. i can't remember the name of it, but there is a condition where the pelvis splits during pregnancy putting pressure on the ligaments. you probably don't have this as it is rare, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

I had problems with my sciatic nerve with my first child, and yes, that is how I would describe it. There isn't much you can do for it (or at least there wasn't 9 years ago, when I was pregnant with my son). Follow your doctors instructions on how to alleviate the pain.

Probably is, but sadly there's little you can do about it at this point.

After you give birth, you'll feel better?
