honestly don't know where to start. Here is my Vision.

I would like to build a shopping mall from the ground up. Not me in particular, but I would like to have one built and I want to be the owner.

I want to have all the normal stores like, Sears, KB TOYs, Radio Shack, etc. BUT I want to have some of my own store too that will benefit people.

Of course there would be separate floors for that.

I really don't know what that would be called, (Owning a Shopping Mall) Is that a Mall Developer?
What qualifications do you need to have in order to do something like this?
How do you get started?

I want to be able to have complete control of my Mall.

How would I get Sears and other stores like that to be part of my Mall? How does all this work?

Please help!

Thanks, that was very helpful. Thanks to all that understood my goal and had positve input. For all those that tried to crush my dreams, GET A LIFE. My Self-Esteem is not that low to be hurt by any of your words or negative criticism. Also, a special note to NIQUE TA MERE, First of all, I didn't use any slang language. Second of all there is not cell phone in my ear. Third of all, you will never be successful with the type of outlook that you had on life. When I'm at the top, I'll see you at the bottom. When I'm up front, I'll see you in the back. When I achieve my goal, I'll see you putting in an application to work for me. You wouldn't be good enough to mop my floor. Nice try pal. But I'm a much stronger person than that. I just could help but respond to your "answer". MORON!!

1. Qualifications wise i would say you would have to have some sort of Business Degree...
2. Second is planning, The cost to have it built, the cost for the land to build on. Remember location is everything. You would want a prime spot. Also look at the area you would like to build in. What is their needs and wants to the people in the community. Is there another mall in the area already established?
3. You will need to contact major retailers to sell them on renting a spot in your mall.
4. I would suggest starting off with a one level shopping area. That way you can expand later if you need more space. Or if you notice that other retailers are taking a liking to what you have.
5. Job Title: Business Developer:- Specialization, Retail management.

Good Luck

Well thats gonna cost some big bucks. So first things first try and get a couple of investors to invest in the idea(I would try and get a construction company intrested as well as a developer) . I believe Owning a shopping mall is different from being Mall Developer. To be perfectly honest I think anyone with the ambition and the money can build a shopping mall. I think you may just need a land permit before you start building. You should contact the city in which you wish to build the mall in for more details. Hope this info helps you out.

First of all have you been to business school? Because if you have been you would know all that.. and you would need alot of money.. Sears owns Sears.. You would own the building. The stores would have to rent out the space. And Sears own there own buildings so count them out! Sorry! I would take some college business courses.. first. And come up with a lot of money or marry a rich rich woman.. that has a vision like you!

There are companies that specialize in building and managing malls. I think that Rouse is one of them.

You need a good location in a good area. Then the retailers will want to be there. You can't force Sears to be in your mall, but you can build an attractive mall that Sears will want to be in....

Before you start I hope that you have a great deal of money to spend on this and a bank that will back you up. To get vendors to rent from you, you need to advertise. You also need to do all the background on the need of a new shopping center. Don't do the work yourself hire a Consulting firm to do this for you they are experienced and know how to go about it...but this needs to be done before you begin...good luck

That's a pretty ambitious dream. I suggest you take some business courses in college and build your experience with some smaller ventures.. You will also need good partners to do business with. It takes many professionals like lawyers, constructors, and merchant reps and many others to suceed in retail developement projects.

you probably have to go to a LOT of schooling.
learn how to draw blue prints, learn how to own a business, manage money etc etc etc.
it'd probably be easier to rent out a store & make your own stuff just through a store, not a mall.
