My overweight friend and I pondered this issue this morning, and in a work situation, our choices and behaviour really do affect each other. She is now doing a point system for weight watching, and it makes me think twice before coming with a treat from the kitchen for the both of us---or even for myself.

We are both now doing well, and motivate each other with articles, and concerted effort to refuse goodies offered around the office.

And when I hear of my daughter out doing pilates class, or now running marathons, I want to get on that stationary bike in the living room, or do a trot around the acreage!!!

Well I think if you hang out with anorexics you're likely to become an anorxic too...hang out with pot heads and you're soon a pot head too.

People judge you by the friends you keep. That is one piece of advice that is oh so true whether you want to believe it or not.

You know it's all will power. You can stand on your own feet and not necessarily be swayed by what others do.

I believe however if it's waved under your nose constantly, you are likely to bite, even if it's only on occasion.

I heard something about that on the radio this morning...I can understand that having thin friends may motivate you to stay or become thin, but I don't know how much I believe that having overweight friends may make you more likely to become overweight yourself...sounds a little far-fetched to me.

one study says that having overweight friends makes you fat. another study says having underweight friends makes you fat. given the right parameters, i can do a study that shows that all fat people want a pure democracy, and all skinny people want pure communism. would the study be true? nope. but i can make it look that way.

This study makes perfect sense to me. Our friends are like mirrors. They reflect how we perceive ourselves. If your friends are fat, and you like your friends of course, then that will make you think it is ok to be fat, and will slightly alter your perception of what is normal and acceptable. If your friends are skinny, then you will also want to be more like your friends, and will be less likely to let yourself become fat.

So we should avoid fat people all togehter??? Isn't that part of the reason they became obese in the first place? Because they had no friends to go hang with?

All my friends are skinny. I put on 20 lbs when I quit smoking and took a desk job.

I think people should stop blaming others and take some personal responsibility for the flaws they perceive in the mirror.
