When I lived in a 1-bedroom $1050 a month apartment I never saw a cockroach, and in this apartment where I pay based on income I find a few cockroaches every day. So is it the management is spending less money on sanitary maintenance than more expensive apartments?

Landlords in less expensive housing do not care about the tenants and only for the $.
Upper-end apartments, landlords care about their tenants' well being, investment, and new clients.

Myabe the management is not doing as good a job or maybe the people in the other apartments are not keeping their places roach free. Also maybe its just an old building with aloth of cracks in it or an old neighborhood and there are alot of roaches around. Many possible reasons.

To get rid of them, try taping or drywalling (spackling) all cracks into your place. Also spray along entry doors and vent (and even windows if they don't shut tight). This will probably greatly reduce them at the least.

On the expensive apartments, the owners wasted all their money on fancy upgrades like garbage disposals and A/C units - now they can't afford to buy any cockroaches. On the cheap apartments, those owners understood that if they were to be able to afford cockroaches, they should buy those first and if any money was left over, buy the fancy upgrades later.

in you high end apartment you did not have money to eat but now that you live in a cheaper place you have a few more crumbs for them to live on -- seriously the reason is again back to the money game. the more the rent the better the pest/bug control service.

no, your a finger-pointer. it's the tenants who have low standards and don't care if they bring them into the apartments. and you may know how hard it is to get an entire building of bugs when one or two slob families have them.

People who make more money and can afford more expensive places to live are cleaner, smarter people who care.

it doesn't matter if your rich or poor if you just clean what you have you won't get bugs, how is it the landlords fought if house has bugs from people that don't clean
