try Woolite in cold water....it's made for better clothes.

It's more the water than the detergent for shrinkage. Fading depends on the dyes used. Be safe, use cold water, hand wash or use gentle cycle, and Woolite or other gentle type cleaner and dry laying out flat, never in the dryer!

Well, I'll tell you what I've heard is NOT good to use. A friend who worked in an upscale clothing store was told in her training to recommend to NOT use Woolite, as it is actually too harsh! She was told to recommend, instead, a mild dishwashing liquid. I have used Melaleuca's "Tough 'n Tender All Purpose Organic Cleaner" also, and have been very happy with it for hand washables. I bought this years ago (but still have some left); you'd have to check on the web to see whether it's still being sold under the same name.

I use Woolite and hand wash in cold water. It really helps. Never wash anything in HOT water that you are afraid will shrink or fade... stick with cold water..
