hi, i just came from the mechanic, i had a few things done but one of the things they said was wrong was i needed new engine mounts. i have a '93 Ford Taurus. they showed me how the engine was moving back and forth, but they didnt say it had to be fixed right away. i also read online that most engine mounts only last about 60K miles so most people are riding around with bad mounts. if thats the case, do i really need to get it fixed? the guy said its going to cost around $300 for parts and labor. id rather go buy a new radio and speakers for my car. im only 17 and i dont have a job yet so $300 isnt easy to come by. thanks.

enjoy your new stereo while the car is sitting in the driveway then.
You "WANT" a stereo, but "NEED" motor mounts. If you're old enough to drive, then why not be old enough to do the responsible thing.

you could leave it but the engine rocking about will stress the driveshafts ,gear linkages , exhuast, hoses anything between the body & the engine into an early failiure.
if the mount breaks the engine will "fall out" leaving you with a very substantional repair bill plus recovery.
worn mounts make the car drive badly and devalue the resale value.
$300 dont sound too bad, you can shop around , most garages would try and beat the quote.
get it done, you car will drive soooo much better, you'll be glad you did, it will save you lots of cash in the long run

motor mounts ae a must, the radio is a "want". broken mounts can lead to other problems, broken tranny mounting bolts, broken exhausts etc. Owning a car, isn't always cheep or fun. Welocme to the world of responsibility. And why wouldn't a 17 year old get a job? Get up and get to work. If you are in school, part time work is available. While my kids are in school, if they have good grades, I pay for their car and insurance, but they pay for the upkeep and maintenance, either by doing chores at home, or working if they choose, as long as the grades stay up.

you can get them from autozone and do it your self and save a **** load of $. Only other thing you would have to buy is a Haynes manual but they do need replaced.
