Yes he speaks Italian fluently.He is one of four actors to win an Oscar for speaking a foreign language in an American movie (Godfather ll ) He was born in New york on 17 Aug.1943,and is part Irish.

Dont know if you call it fluent but we were in a restaurant in New York and DeNiro came in and we could hear him talking Italian to someone who was probably the owner. He ordered the most expensive bottle of wine but only wanted to pay for a glass of it. There was a pretty animated discussion in Italian and he seemed to be holding his own. I dont know what happened with the wine, but he certainly made his pescence known.

He is Italian American! But, I'm not certain he's fluent. Seems logical that he would be.

he's actually half italian and half irish ( american ) but I don't see why he can't be fluent

im sure he does... my favorite one with him in it is when he is the voice of the one shark in Shark Tale.
