Definitely. It's one of the few places in the world where anyone can be whatever they are willing to WORK for.
There aren't any excuses to not have a college education, even if you weren't born into privilege where your parents can afford to send you. Fill out a FASFA and see how much the government wants to give you. Apply for scholarships. Many organizations love throwing money around, especially if you're a minority. Every school outside of the Ivy League offers finacial assistance too. Even after all of those avenues are exhausted and you STILL have no money, every bank in America will line up for you to sign up for a student loan with them.
The only thing people need is time, personal responsibility, and determination. It's no fault but your own if you don't have a degree.

Yes I do believe that and people prove that it is true all the time. One of the reasons why the United States is one of the greatest countries in the world is the level of opportunity. Poor is a relative term at best. There are poor people in America, but poor by our standards only because they are rich by the standards existing in many third world countries. The trick to success is hard work, perseverance, determination and self reliance. This is why I consider liberal policies regarding the the poor to be the greatest detriment to success in general. It is never good to create victims because victim status reduces empowerment. I know that many of these people are well meaning with their intentions, but when you constantly reinforce the idea that people cannot provide for themselves in life you create a self fulfilling prophesy. Our goal should always be empowerment, not entitlement.

I believe that anyone can work here. Succeed is another story. There are people working 60 or more hours a week and still living at or near the poverty level. Doubt if many would consider that being successful.
A college education gets more difficult every year for the middle class. Currently, the average Americans savings are at an all time low. That means that the Average American cannot afford to send their kids to college. It now costs over $10,000 a year or more with tuition, room and board , and text books to send your kids to an "inexpensive" state college. That means that to attend, most of these kids or their parents have to have a loan that amounts to 40-50 thousand to educate them. Many don't want to be saddled with that kind of debt.
Poor kids get grants, rich kids can afford college, and the middle class is left to go deeper and deeper in debt. so much for success................

The middle class cannot always afford a college education because of the way the government has set up assistance, and how it seems the wealthy seem to be the ones with children that get "full ride" scholarships. Middle class get stuck with school debts and cannot afford to risk starting businesses and "getting ahead."
America is becoming more and more a country with less oppurtunity for middle class people to rise to the top because of new business taxes and so much government intervention.
If you're a minority or poor, you can almost count on getting through college, and you should take it and run with it, for you have what most other middle class people do not.
The solution: more conservative leaders, and people that will vote for them to give middle class back their money and rights.

If you want it bad enough, yes. Some people have it easy and some people don't. Them's the breaks. If you are willing to work hard and make sacrifices, anything is possible in this Great Land of Opportunity, the USA!

Yes I do!
As far as college goes though. Getting a degree does not necessarily mean you're going to have a better life financially. I know many who have "that" piece of paper and can't seem to make more than 30K a year.
Neither my wife or I have college degrees yet we still make a healthy 6 figure income. Through hard work, desire, moving forward and never looking back, we did this. God gave us our abilities and led us in the directions to utilize them to maximum potential for which I'm truly grateful.
I will say this though. If you are white, and low to middle class, getting scholarships are next to impossible. These people must rely on student loans, second mortgages on their house GI bills etc. only because of the color of their skin.
So it is looking more and more that if you are lucky and are one color, you can go to college, but if you are UN-lucky and of another color, you are SOL.

Anyone who wants to, should have the opportunity to get a college education. If they come from a poor family and need financial help, I can't think of a better way for my tax dollars to be spent.

In the words of Glenn Beck.
"BECK: I`m a freakin` dough person. I`m surprised I have muscles. I`m a doughy, Pillsbury dough boy with hair that looks ridiculous. I have a reverse skunk -- the only natural hair in America that looks like a toupee. I can barely speak, I`m so riddled with ADD, I have absolutely no memory whatsoever. I have an IQ of maybe 90. I never graduated college, and I have this job? Please use me as the poster boy of God bless America, you can succeed! "
