in my opinion when i was younger ..things were better ...summer was warm, winter was cold ,people had respect for others.i knew all the families in my street.crime was pretty low.music was better..etc.....but i can remember my dad reffering that it was better in his day ..even though there was a war on.and they had few luxuries ....i think the present time is a rat race.....a 93 year old person was mugged in edinburgh in the last few days over a few pounds..etc.....so ...how bad will life be in 60 years or so..that will make our kids think back to the present as the good old days..............or is it every generation just misses their youth

Christmas basically wasn't the comparable the year my father and mom divorced. I stayed the nighttime with my Dad, and have been given up on Christmas morning to run into the front room to be sure what replace into under the tree. there replace into no longer something yet clothing; 2 new pair of denims, socks, undies, and a pair of latest shirts. i attempted to be gracious and say that I enjoyed each thing, in spite of the undeniable fact that it regarded like this form of letdown for a boy of 11. Then my Dad reached over in the back of the settee and delivered out a sparkling electric powered guitar. i replace into ecstatic.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. When I was a kid 50 some odd years ago we didn't have all the 'stuff' that is around now but I think life was a better one. Kids actually went outside and played with their friends and it was safe to be out there alone. I remember my mom having to come out and practically drag me inside when it was time to come in in the evening. Now all kids do is sit in front of TV either watching it or playing video game or on the computer. If I had kids now they'd hate me because that time would be severely restricted. I am in Canada actually and I quit carrying a purse 99 percent of the time because we have had elderly woman attacked here too. It's not happening all the time but enough to make me wary.

i get your point but another take on it..lol.. i just spent the day taking my kids..9, 8, and 6, an a real fun day- the bowling alley, toyshop, Mcdonalds, etc- and lots of chatting, bonding , quality time etc etc , yet they were still really bold on the way home , and i said to them ( mid rant :o) that the 'telling offs' si what they would remember in years to come, rather than the great day they had had! sigh, i guess that is just all part and parcel of being a parent.
OMG Kitten- penny shrimps- i had completely fortgotten them- things WERE better then eh?!!what about cinnamon potatoes, with the plastic toy that you chewed to bits before you found it ( or your teeth fell out!)

Sure. I can remember taking off on my bike and riding for miles with my pals. I knew I had to be home by sundown. My mom didn't worry because people didn't snatch kids off the streets in our small town. There were no gangs to hurt me.
I miss the freedom and innocence of my youth. Now a young mother wouldn't dream of letting her child just take off on a bike all day.... and for very good reason!!!
I 'm sure this generation will hold fast to youthful memories too. I think one of them will be remembering when fresh water was always available.

i don't think they will - everything seems to have changed. kids don't play out like we used to, no traditions (sunday dinners etc).Sundays are not at all what they were.
kids these days want the most expensive gadgets and spend alot of their time playing consoles etc. People don't seem as friendly.
what more can i say.......
i do miss the good old days - and i'm only 30!!

Think they will look back, but not like we did, we can talk about the telly we watched we only had 3 channels, where they have hundreds and no one watches the some thing any more, sweets are another, penny shrimps and flying sauces. just like you mentioned, i don't think they will have as much in common as we did

I think every generation misses their youth, but with President Bush in dictatorship, I doubt anyone will look back and refer to these times as "the good ol' days".

I think everyone misses their youth and innocence. I'm 24, and I find myself looking fondly back on my teen years, even though I hated them when I going through them.
