In Hospital Care: Neurosciences

The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region’s Neurosciences Unit provides specialized care for adults with neurological impairment or dysfunction. Neurology, neurosurgery and stroke patients are cared for in the unit. There is also a neuro observation unit.

The team caring for Neurosciences patients include physicians, nurses, social workers, physio and occupational therapists and attendants, speech-language pathologists, dietitians and pharmacists.

Stroke Prevention Clinic


The goal of the Stroke Prevention Clinic is to reduce the number of strokes through public education and early identification and treatment of people at risk for stroke.

A physician may refer clients to the clinic, if they have symptoms of a stroke or TIA (transient ischemic attack, that produces stroke like symptoms that resolve in 24 hours or less) Clinics are held on a weekly basis.

At the clinic, specially trained nurses interview patients, paying particular attention to the symptoms of stroke and stroke risk factors. Educational information and counselling is provided. They are then seen by a neurologist.

Group classes are offered on a regular basis. Classes include information on:
how strokes occur
risk factors
healthy eating
medications
stress
exercise
