Most people have never used Sony Vaios, so they really don't know how good they are. Also, most Mac users lie about their things, or exaggerate, don't tell the whole truth, or do anything to get people to come to their side. Some of it's true, and some isn't. They're good, but the users are not so good.
I go to college, and most people love to whistle and stare at my Sony Vaio. Macbook Pro is also a looker, but I've got more stronger looks at my Vaio than my old MBP. Just because Vaios are so different, yet good. People really admire it, and ask where I got it. Like it's some foreign brand. You can just get it at a Sony Store, or other retailer.
I'm in college too right now, and it's helped me a lot. The design and aesthetics are so wonderful to bring along. It's really portable, and it just works. My MBP on the other hand, is a bit more heavier. Using my Vaio for schoolwork is easy. I use Office 2007, and it really helps makes my reports, graphs, docs, all look nice. Mac has nothing like that. Also, OS X on the Mac, doesn't work too well with some of the stuff I needed for college, so I just left it at home. I find taking it is not so useful at all.
I have used both a MacBook Pro and a Sony Vaio, and let me tell you, the Vaio is way better.
I used my MacBook Pro for about 1/2 a year. It worked fine for the most part. I found myself using the Windows side of my Mac more, because OS X isn't compatible with lots of stuff, it was kind of more slow, and I just preferred Windows more. I only liked the Mac because it looked nice on the outside, not on the inside. I had several problems with it, and AppleCare treated me real awful. The first time they're nice with you (to get good reviews), but the 2nd time, they're real lazy. They said my coverage didn't work, and I would have to buy a new one. What a scam.
I got it fixed, and use it very little now. I bought a Sony Vaio and let me tell you, it's so awesome. The Vaio has a real nice sexy design. Even better than the Mac I should say. In fact, the Macbook Pro tries to imitate the previous Vaios, but a Mac fan won't admit to that. The Vaio works real well for me.
I'm using Windows Vista on it, and I've had no problems. None at all, except some compatibility problems. But that's it. I use a very good anti-virus called Live OneCare, and it's very easy to use. High-speed internet makes the whole thing so much more nicer.
So buy a Sony Vaio, you won't regret it. I'm a trained expert, and I know the difference between Macs and PC's. I love both.

Oh no, here come a ton of silly comments. Objectively here's what to remember when you get all the nonsense comments you're sure to get with a question like this...
1. Macs are not "just" more expensive. NO - They are OEM computers just like any other PC, but they typically offer more features and thus cost more. If you configure a truly compatible PC (sometimes not even possible) you'll find the price points the same. This doesn't mean "Hey, this PC has the same RAM, processor and Hard Drive, and it's cheaper!" You're essentially buying a PC with a premium configuration and excellent bundled software, so you pay appropriately. If you're on a budget, buy a Honda not a BMW. Alienware is a PC company that also makes premium PCs for a price.
2. There's more software and games for a PC. NO - All Macs can run Windows and/or OS X, so how can there be more titles available for a PC which can only run Windows? Even saying that there are more titles for Windows than OS X is untrue and I'm not sure where that comes from. Maybe they mean to include mom and pop shareware titles, virus scanners, and so forth. One thing's for certain. There's no task on either OS that you will find yourself unable to perform due to lack of the appropriate software, so don't listen to this one.
3. It depends on what you want to use the computer for. NO again! People who don't know any better are stuck with the idea that one computer can do something the other cannot. This is false. I can edit video, manage and edit photos, write screenplays, create 3D art, rip/burn CDs and DVDs... all of that with either Mac or Windows based machines. Now there are some "rare" software titles that are only made for one or the other. 3D Studio Max is on Windows, but not Mac. Final Cut Pro is on Mac, but not Windows and so on. But that's not to say you can't use Maya or Lightwave (3D apps) on the Mac and it's not to say you can't use Adobe Premiere on the PC. So if for some strange reason you're completely locked into using a certain title, this may be a consideration IF you're planning to get a PC. But Macs can run Windows or OS X, so there is NO limitation there.
What do I prefer? I actually find that Vista is a vast improvement over XP, but I still lean towards OS X. I actually run both OSes on my MacBook Pro. They're high quality machines that can run any software I need. OS X is free of viruses (fact) and "to me" more pleasurable to use.
That's my take. Other than the last paragraph, the above information is objective and factual. I've seen that most of the other comments revolve around pure subjectivity. I'd suggest you go in to an Apple store and try one out. Then find a Best Buy or something where you can try out a machine that has Vista on it. Work with both and make "your" decision. Hope that helps!

Clearly PC. Macs are just too expensive. And there's a greater variety of software and games to purchase for PC.

for intuitiveness and ease of use, Mac
for popularity-based software, PC
PC copied Mac for its GUI interface (graphic user interface) and PC became very popular. so, PC became Mac eventually.
and there are more software available for PC. So, it's best to have PC. Imagine yourself having a Mac while your circle of friends have PCs? you may be out of the picture. besides, it's cheaper to have a generic PC. hope this will help you decide.
