I just got these fish today (didnt really notice anything when i bought them) I used a drip method to acclimate them to the tank. Now that they are in there im noticing white spots mostly around the mouth and some on their bodies.

What could this be & how do i treat it???

BTW>>>..they are small Red Morrow Tetra's. I have 6 of them in a 10 gallon tank with live plants that came from another aquarium.

Since the spots are mostly around the fishes mouth, I would suggest it could be ick, but also could be mouth fungus aka columnaris. If it's ich, it will look like salt sprinkled on the fish. in that case a good ich medication like Quick Cure will clear it up. Despite what the bottle may say, increasing the temperature of the tank to above 85F will help and yes, you do really need to treat for at least a week after you see the last spot.

If the spots don't really look like salt, but instead look fuzzy, it's more likely to be columnaris. That's a bacterial infection and should be treatede with a good antibiotic such as Furanase, Furan-2, or Maracyn TC. For that just treat as the package directs.

If the spots look like little salt grains sprinkled on them, then it is a parasite called ick. There are medications such as rid-ick and coppersafe which are effective at treating it.

If the spots are larger and almost look fuzzy, then it is probably a fungus. There are also medications for fungus.

These medications can be found at pet stores such as Petco or Petsmart.

white spot is a realy common disease that needs to be treated or they may die. the treatment i use is KING BRITISH WHITE SPOT CONTROL. it is very good and is likely to have it cleared up in 2-3 days.
it is a small white box with orange writing and orange rims at the top and bottom. its easy to use too.
the fish will last long so there is no need to hurry but the sooner treated the better so to stop it getting worse or spreading to othr fish.

They have what is called "Ick". Unfortunately, you have unknowingly just infected the entire tank. I would go to the pet store where you made your purchase and DEMAND they give you "Ick" medication so you may treat your entire tank.

Post a picture, It's probably ick. If the spots look like little grains of salt, that's what it is.

Not sure, but it sounds like it may be a fungal infection. if not treated, it will spread over the gills and the fish will suffocate. go to a pet store or vet, they have medicine for this, move swiftly to save them.
