i know its better to pick a fish that looks healthy
but the one i chose is healthy, but with slight tears in the fins
i tend to pick fish that are slightly unattractive
and then i take care of them so they look attractive :D

Yep, that's tottaly normal for a betta in a new environment. It can also be a sign he's too cold, so check the temperature and try to keep him in the mid 70's F.

How about Rose for a name?

Do you have plants?

Betta's tend to be more active in a planted tank (real or fake) because they are more secure and also because they block the line of sight across the tank, encouraging them to explore. The larger the tank, the more important this becomes. And don't let anyone tell you 'the tank is too big'. In my 15 gallon heavily planted tank my betta spends some time sitting still, but more time swimming about. Also, if the tank water is cool and not heated, the result is less activity for this tropical fish. Also I'm sure he needs to get used to his new home, but this usually doesn't take long at all.

How warm is your water temp? If your water is too cold or too hot your beta will become sluggish. What has it eaten? Do you have a light and places for your beta to hide?

if you have all of these things and you just recently put your beta in the tank it is a little dazed and confused and is simply adjusting. Unfortunatly Betas are not the most active fish. To get your Beta to look it's best and if you think that you have enough space to hold both of them purchase a tank diveder and put a seond beta on the other side. Since you bought a more expensive beta purchase the second one cheaper. The fins will flare and excite your betas a little more!

as for the first answerer you are a sicko and why are you in the fish section spamming and really maing disturbing comments?

As for a name I love making really long names like

Sir. Maximillian Hugo Frederick Chopin Mozart Mckay the 51st

and give it a short for like Freddy
plus throw in two of your fave celeb, author, characters or composers. e.g. Chopin and Mozart.

Don't worry. It's just the shock of being placed in a new home. It has a new tank, new things to look at outside the tank, new water parameters to adjust to and things like that. He'll spruce up in a couple of days. Don't worry if he doesn't eat either - it's for the same reason.

Congratulations for putting your betta in the amount of space he deserves. You should get a heater in there if you haven't already - keep the water at a steady 78 degrees F or so. A filter is not essential as long as you are disciplined with water changes, but get one (without too strong a water current) and it'll be less work for you.

If you just got your betta, that's absolutely normal behavior, he has to get used to his new environment
On the start you will also notice that he will hide when you go next to the tank, but after some time he will come when you feed him , they have great personalities

As for names, what color is it
ours is called sunnyboy, he has a great red color

Hope that helps
Good luck

EB

P.S.:
You're right, you don't put 2 male bettas together, but you could keep 3 female bettas in a 10 gallon tank actually

That happened to my Beta too! I got so worried I thought it was dead lol, until I asked my aunt. She also has a Beta and told me that these fishes always look stiff and they're supposed to be 'boring'. So there you go!

By the way, never put 2 male Betas in the same tank! They're called the Fighting Fish for a reason.

your fish is normal. my cousins had a beta fish named "crazy fish". They called it that because he literally would swim to one side of the tank, than go full speed ahead and ram his head in the other side, then do it again. Compared to "crazy fish" I would say your's is pretty normal. I named my betta fish Ozzy.

Most bettas are very laid back and would rather not waste energy. It should be just fine!

And for names how about Comet or Conner?

they like small places like a big glass goldfish bowl...i have mine in a big vase with river rocks and a little coral reef tunnel...they like real water plants too...sometimes i stick roses in the vase with him...mine swims & makes faces almost all day...he jumps up and attacks the little pellet food i drop in

i think your tank is too big, you need to put things in it he'll like, give him time to get used to the water and surroundings, and when you're buying fish pick out an active one not one that is just sitting there
