Go to the library and start reading. Then start driving - probably throughout your State if not the whole Country.
County Clerk's Offices, Churches, Historical Societies,etc.
The 'net is a "tool" and it will save you a ton of time, gasoline and money. Use it. Start with the Mormons - Church of Latter Day Saints. I'd be surprised if they condoned or encouraged pop-ups for sites you hae to pay for.
