My thirteen year old son's mother left in the spring to be with her boyfriend and I now have custody of our son. When she left she said she was going to come down every other weekend to see him. I feel she is now wanting me to bring him halfway on Friday and then pick him up half way on Sunday. This would be ten hours of travel for me every other weekend. I have another small child and have had back problems/surgery in my history and do get back pain when I drive long distance. Can the court make me do this? I feel I am taking care of my son and provide a home, she left and has no other children so she should do the driving. Does anyone know what the law would say? We live in Vermont.

I think that since you have custody, she needs to come to you, but if I were you, I would check with a lawyer.

Good luck, and take care.

The court most likely won't make you do that, but yes, they can if they want. They often put the child's needs ahead of the parents'.
