How many years of college? And how much money does the average cosmetologist make? (And I don't mean like, sweeping up hair at Great Clips!) Any other tips? Thanks so much!

The school can take 1-2 years. I would reccomend an Aveda institute. You can do cosmetology in about 18 months, and then also do their esthetician program so you can do more at spas and salons. Cosmetology there involves hair, nails, and makeup, while esthetician does waxes, facials, body treatments, and massages.

As for money, it depends on how much you can do and what your specialty is. Once you get a job, I would try to get in a high end salon (like Modern Salon and Spa) and specialize in color or perms (curling or straightening) because these services get the most money. Starting salary may not be too good, but you can work your way up to pretty decent wages, plus tips.

Instead of working in a salon, you may consider a cruise ship. They usually have salons and spas, and if you do both programs you can make more as a cosmetologist and esthetician.

I would also reccomend getting an associates (2 yr) business degree if you plan on eventually owning a salon.

Well, if you have a junior college they may have a trade program in cosmetology, which will take 2 years part-time & 1year full-time and you would receive an AA degree. If you have speaciality like coloring hair & weaving you will make good money. For example, some salons charge $175-220 a head! If this is something you really want to do go after it & give it your all! Try making a portfolio of all the hairstyles you in beauty college & it'll help you when you graduate & go to to big salon! Good Luck!

It only takes like a year or 2 to finish cosmetologist school and people always need their hair cut, so you'll have that job forever. My neice is one and she works for Visible Changes and she brings home $100-$200 in tips and she makes $10 an hour.
