I believe there is a significant chance that we may experience a pole shift in 2012. Our sun is due for its 11 year cyclical pole shift, at that time. Due to the influence of a planetary alignment, also scheduled, at that time, our Earth may shift its poles too. NASA has already confirmed that the Earth's north magnetic pole has started to migrate to the South Atlantic. It has also detected a diminishing magnetic field that accompany pole shifts.

Personally, I'm going to prepare, as best I can, for any disasters that may happen. I may seek high ground away from coastal low lands and unstable earth. Most of all, I plan to enjoy the ride wherever it may take us. This experience may prove to be a very "enlightening" one. I am learning to "quite my mind" away from material things and our limited human intellect: Concentrating on focusing my mind on truly positive and enjoyable things. If our minds are going to be able to transcend time, I want to be good and ready. Learn how to quite the mind using meditation:

According to some Mayans, this date marks the end of the long count of their calendar; Set to end on a winter solstice (12-21-12). On this date, our Solar system will be center aligned , in the Milky Way's equator. Our sun will be centered in a position called "The Tree of Life", as it does every 25,800 years. In this position, unusually violent sun spot activity may cause a pole shift. Earthquakes, tsunamis, and floods will run ramped. Significant loss of life will occur. Earths magnetic field will temporarily collapse. Humans will be exposed to a cosmic energy that will facilitate enlightenment. If you would like to read about the Mayans and their predictions for the time, I have summarized them here:

Geologist Gregg Branden gave a lecture back in 1996. He spoke of how ancient traditions and beliefs, of the coming new age, can be explained in the language of modern science. He shows there may definitely be something to the Mayan predictions about a (pole shift) as well as life ending as we know it. In fact, he claims Earth's rotation as well as its magnetic field are already in a gradual deceleration and decline. Further, at its current rate, both should approach "Zero" on 12/21/2012. His lecture is kind of long (4 hours), but I found it very interesting.

A nuclear war fare appear very iminent , on the basis of what is happening to day we dont have to worry about 2012 which is the limit of the Mayan calendar reckoning.
This country has been attacked and possibly the next one will be it.Way before we can even reach the end of the mayan calendar year.
I have reservation that Present Bush even though thru opposition has tryed to avoid this calaminty from occuring he will not be able to stop it on time .Presently the lid on the cover is in check.

Ignore that Joe Pardy stuff above.

There is no correlation between the magnetic poleshift and the axial pole.

The magnetic pole wanders all the time - even daily. It always has done.

Nothing in the near or remote future is going to shift the Earth's axis.

Please be very careful what you read on these answers. There are some real fools and a lot of tabloid type hype is published by people or quoted from unreliable sources.

Ugh. Enough already.

Has anybody here even seen a Mayan calendar? Has anyone here even met any Mayans? What makes anyone think that the Mayans knew anything more than we know right now?

For goodness sake, don't believe everything you see on TV.

Nothing.

The Mayans could not predict the future. They just saw no point in writing their calendar out infinitely far in the future. They just happened to stop writing in the year we would call 2012.

Thats actually just the end of a thousand year cycle. The Mayans were big on things reoccurring in or on cycles. It will just be the beginning of a new and hopefully better cycle than the last.

What happened at the highly touted millenium?
Not a whole heck of a lot.
I'd guess the same for 2012.
