No one can say any creature of the sea is a myth until every deep has been explored completely. I wonder how many would say an octopus with wing-like structures did not exist? Now there are pictures and movies of such from a recent exploration of a Deep.

The Kraken is a myth based on fact, the fact being Giant Squid. Though it is unlikely that you saw one, they rarely leave the deepest depths of the ocean.
