There's no exact way to measure it because it's different for everyone.
Someone who has many friends is successful in their social life.
Someone who has a wonderful wife/husband (and in some case's well behaved kids) is successful in their family life. Someone who is financially stable (did it honestly and on their own... not inharrited) is successful financially.
Someone who is well educated is successful intellectually.

In all, I guess it has more to do with your goals wants and needs. More importantly, are you happy?

I measure my success by how many of my moss plugs I can keep alive. I collect different kinds of flowering moss. And, I measure my success by if I can start my stupid lawn mower and stuff like that. Some days I can. Some days I cannot. It's a big struggle and I sharpen my teeth in that life-or-death tug-a-war of woman against machine. Also, I measure my own success by how many kneebends I can do in day (400, which is pretty good for a woman my age), how many new words can I learn, how much music I can memorize while playing my violin, and if I can finish a demanding Suduko puzzle in one sitting. Failures in these matters greatly annoy me. The worst, of course, is a withered moss plug.

I measure my success depending on what category I am looking at.

With my children, it has to do with how they feel about me at the end of the day, as well as how well they are coping in their lives.

With my job, I measure my success by the types of feedback and reviews I get, which in turn, leads to a possible raise and/or promotion.

With my financial life, I measure my success by how well things are going, am I keeping up with my bills? Am I reaching my goals timely?

With my personal success, I measure it by how easily I am able to fall asleep at night. Do I have any worries I have not addressed? Am I still moving forward or have I gotten stuck?

Success = satisfaction where my journey has taken me + hope, excitement, and plans for the future.

It's a life-long pursuit and it can only be measured by a peaceful internal feeling.
