The name AC/DC was invented by Angus and Malcolm Young's sister Margaret. It comes from the letters AC/DC (Alternating Current/Direct Current) on the back of their mother’s sewing machine.

nothing... actually, when i was in high school, 20 years ago, someone told us that it stands for After Christ/ Devil Comes....
what an ******! but now, AC/DC the band really stands for power, whether it's alternate current and direct current and God bless AC/DC... If you are about to rock then, we salute you!

AC/DC means Alternating Current/Direct Current, but the Young's (Angus and Malcom) read it off their sisters hair dryer.

far as i know it doesn't stand for anything.When Angus was in High School he saw a symbol that said AC/DC on an electric sewing machine and thought that would be a great name for his band.

Angus and Malcolm Young claim they developed the idea for the band's name after seeing the acronym "AC/DC" on the back of a sewing machine owned by their sister, Margaret.
