and should the word be struck from the dictionary, as there are more bastards now than ever there were, due to folks not getting wedded before they get bedded. What I mean to say is, that bastards are far to common now to differentiate, so the word is dead.

It's called "I was planned".

I think you're right to some extent. Maybe in this part ofthe country, or world, yes.
But that's also a matter of personal opinion. I think if a child is brought into this world and loved very much by their parents, it should not matter if they are techniquely a "bastard", it seems like such a harsh word. In my fam, we call it a "surprise". Hahaaha.
What if marriage was never invented in any culture? Everyone would be a bastard!

I agree. The word has a terrible connotation, and it brands an innocent child or person as a product of immorality, although he or she had nothing to do with the fact that the biological parents were not married when said child was conceived. It is the parents who were at fault, and not the offspring. I believe a child should be called a child, period! I'm with you on that. A person whose parents were not married, is not any less a human being. I'll bet there are many famous people who have been stuck with that horrid label, through no fault of their own.

No, the word still means the same. After all, there are now more black people than ever before - and they are still black.
The name for a person who is NOT a bastard (i.e. born in wedlock). Now that is a good question!!

You are right, the meaning of the word is dead, as people use it for a different meaning nowadays. I think it should be changed to illegitimate.

I think people barely remember its literal sense. It is usually used to describe a swine of some sorts and I am not talking about pigs.

Legitimate.

But even legitimate folks are bastards, IMHO.

most normal stopped using that term for people of single parentage a long time ago - you say it 4 times in one little very unimportant question - does it make you feel good when you say it- a little superior maybe - well sorry but you're not you're just plain rude
