I monitor the water closely, the temp and the nitrate/nitrite/chlorine/hardness/ammonia/
alkalinity levels are all correct. But he continually has fin and tail rot and pop eye. I really don't know what to do any more. Help? I can't get RID of them. I've tried all of Mardel's products, copper safe, maroxy, antibiotics, adding salt. Nothing seems to work!

Tail rot and pop eye are both bacterial problems. Treating correctly with a good antibiotic will take care of the problem. It sounds like you have used many of the common antibiotics on the market and this strain may be resistant to further treatment with those so try something different and something with a punch. I would suggest Furanase as an over the counter solution. Treat for 10-14 days to be sure you clear up the problem. Another colution would be going to a vet for Cipro. Explain that you have tried over the counter antibiotics and they didn't get the job done. Again, treat with that for a long term treatment, 10-14 days.

Both of those are excellent antibiotics for the bacteria that cause both fin rot and popeye. and one or the two will clear up the problem.

Those antibiotics may say they treat things like fin rot, but Maracyn 2 (gram negative) and Tetracycline are the only I know of to actually work. How big is your tank? If water is good, then try Maracyn 2, it should help him. If you have tried that, you may need something like Medi-Gold fish food (if he will eat) or see if a vet in the area will give baytril injections. I hope he gets better! Sometimes overmedicating can cause some problems, so try to find at least a good fish store, not a big chain like petco or petsmart, and either bring him in or explain the situation, and they can also give you good advice. Good luck!

How long have you had this fish? The reason I ask is because you sound like you know what you are doing, but if you have an unhealthy fish he could infect your other fish. Also did the place you bought him from have a guarantee, if so talk to them see if the other fish have the same disease, but if you want to save that fish I think you should make him a bit healthier before mixing him with the other fish.

he might be allergic to something you added to his tank. try transferring him to a new one with fresh everything. if that doesn't work, take him to a vet.
