If your serious about the size of your thumb, and the discomfort its causing you, I can only tell you what WILL work but Should be done by the A&E.
Get a naked flame (lighter/candle etc) also a sewing needle... You have to heat the needle up and pierce the thumb nail at the BASE inside the"half moon". This will release the pressure (can spurt so need tissues) from beneath your nail. It is almost instant relief and is precisely what the nurse will do at the A&E.
The relief is magic but obviously hygine is most important...
THIS really does work and hope this helps you out..

Certainly put it in Ice,,, also take a small, sharp drill bit and with your other hand manage a tinly hole through the thumb nail to relieve pressure. It's gonna pain ya fer a day er two mate; but then it'll just look ugly for about 4 months.

"Been there; Done that"; likely fits most of us here.

Actually had an electrician with a hammer once (bad combination), Hit himself on the thumb, got mad... Hit it a second time... Got real mad and did it a third time.

Not sure if it was the 2nd or the 3rd where he actually fractured his thumb, but it did make for an interesting report....

Use ice and ibuprofen to help with the swelling and pain.
