nfl is the only sport that has a former player on deathrow for murder, a player who killed a woman drunk driving. A linebacker who is more popular after spending 30 days in jail in connection with a double murder and 30 arrests in 15 months. No sport has these issues. I'm a baseball -baseball-hockey fan. I hear everyone saying that baseball is tarnished because of steriods. what percentage of nfl players on on the juice. A PUNTER for the broncos was suspended for steriods. A doctor for the steelers purchased $150K of hgh in florida from a doctor being investaged. There is no problem with steroids in the nfl Right! If i have to listen to one more white guy call the nba a thug league. so when a black guy in the nba gets in trouble, its a black eye for the league, when a black guy in the nfl gets in trouble, he's just one bad apple. Protected by fans and media. Shouldn't we apply the same standards to every sport. player are but, the NFL brand is never critized, unlike mlb & nba brand!

the nfl is cleary worse, base on what. I dont know one nba or mlb player who was directly responsible for the death of a woman. Or one on went to jail in connection with a double murder.
iamnotyou- great, nlf players are arrested at a lower rate than the general public. thats the case for every major sport. by the way mister "get some facts," show me were the nfl players do more charity work than any other sport. I would love to see that research!

Odd, the only people who get thumbs down on this question are the one's who critize the nfl, THATS MY POINT!!!

The NBA is clearly worse. All of what happens in the NFL happens in the NBA and the officials actually bet on games in the NBA.

So, because the media has overblown the NFL's "problems," that automatically makes the NFL the cesspool for all that's wrong with the world? How about looking at some facts before spouting off this garbage? Like the FACT that NFL players are arrested at a lower rate than the general populace, including this "crime spree" that has supposedly occurred in the last year. Or the fact that NFL players do more charity and community service work than players of the other sports. Of course there are more NFL arrests than other sports, because there are more players than other sports. Steroids is a problem for the NFL, which is why they suspend guys rather than looking the other way like baseball did. The NFL has been endlessly criticized by the media and people like you for the last year, but if you want to pretend that it's not being blown way out of proportion, then go ahead. I'll continue sitting here looking at things logically.

And as far as the player "sitting on death row," at least he went to jail, unlike Ty Cobb, who killed somebody and got away with it completely.

The violent nature of NFL football seems to be a magnet for outstanding athletes who have anger issues. In no other sport will players be rewarded and actually play better when they are angry or off their rocker so I'm not surprised of the history of some of these guys.

However, there's no excuse for what NFL players get away with off of the field. It's still a game, and these guys are role models for young fans of the game; like it or not.

The fans dump millions of dollars into the NFL in the way of tickets and merchandise alone; the NFL owes it to us to clean up the damn league.

Edit: I did want to mention that I believe the punter that you referred to was actually found with Ephedra...which is not an anabolic steroid or even illegal; but it is a banned NFL substance.

This so-called "anger" from fans not liking the NFL's name having a black mark on it might just come from the media.

For instance, the dogfighting case happened in the NFL. Imagine what would happen if it were in the NHL. ESPN seems to be downplaying this incident as much as possible, but if it happened in the NHL, they'd waste absolutely no time in cutting down the league and its' players.

Since the NFL is the biggie of the four major professional sports and it's what the majority of the U.S. watches when it comes to sports, ESPN will defend the NFL to the death, while they'd cut their ties with the NHL (if they still had any).

I know it's unfair and I know I've gone on and on so many times before about ESPN, but that's what it is.

I asked a similar question the other day, just about steroids in general. I'm a fan of most sports and it annoys me when my fellow baseball fans curse Bonds and wish for him to die or be injured to prevent the record breaker, yet they have no problems whatsoever with football players juicing up. To me it just shows how much more powerful the NFL and football in general have become. We must love this game so much that we're willing to turn a blind eye to performance enhancements or other incidents. Perhaps baseball fans were too naive in thinking that maybe their sport was the only clean, legit one and then freaked out when the truth came out? It's hard to explain exactly why football gets a bit of a free pass, but I'm sure part of it involves how huge the sport has become.

Football is king in America and as a result it gets away with a lot more than it should. Now, I am not sure it is a cesspool but it certainly has a lot of bad apples. But, that is what we get when we as a society place entertainers on such high pedestals. We make them incredibly rich, allow them to forgo education, and let them get away with whatever they want. Reap what you sow, I guess.
