Why do women feel compelled to wear makeup?

Of course i wear makeup, i am one of those people who feel compelled to wear it, only at certain occasions though, i really don't wear it all the time, even if i go to the store i don't care to put any on. But places like my wedding day..duh! i'm gonna wear makeup!

I don't know.Alot of people (young) do becasue theyare pressured or because they want to fit in.
I don't wear any excpet on special occasions. Like my Graduation.
I preffer not wearing it becasue, I can go swimming, and rub my eyes and not worry about it! lol
But some women thinks it makes them look prettier or younger, and some really need it.lol
But all it really does it ruin your face. I prefer the natural way.=]

I used to NEVER wear makeup, i felt good enough about myself to not...These days i feel as a little more insecure and feel like it is expected of me being in my early 20s to wear makeup. I think the media plays a big role in making women feel like that have to look a certain way. It sux we shouldnt care what others think! but we do. Its so hard not to...

In addition, though, I have heard that women wear lipstick to demonstrate that they are aroused and seeking copulation. When the body gets turned on, blood flows quickly. As such, the lips get more red from the flow of blood through and to them. Biologically--yet subtly--men pick up on this que and desire those women with the reddest lips because it portrays a higher likelihood of her being willing to copulate. Now, in today's society, that is all bunk, but it seems the be the initial, psychological rational for wearing lipstick.

Because society tells us that women should wear the gunk.
Men react to it, women react to it, and even our mothers think we should...put on a little rouge or something.....else we look pale and sickly.
I seldom wear it, and my husband hates when I do. When I have a picture taken, I tend to wear some, because I have a very fair complaxion, and I look really washed out in photos. This makes no sense, as I really do look washed out in real life, so I shouldn't fake it in pics right?
Sometimes we just feel better when we can bring out our best features and hide our flaws.

UK, i hate to wear make up...maybe some chap stick, but that's about as close as I get.
I used to watch my grandmother put on make-up every morning before work. I would sit silently on her bed, just watching, until I could almost copy her movements, and know exactly when she would use lip stick, mascara, or whatever.
One day I asked her, "Why do you put on make-up every day, when your just gonna take it off at night?"
She said, "why do you get dressed every morning when you are just going to put those p.js back on at night?"
I thought about it, and I guess the reason women wear make-up is because they feel "undressed" without it :-)

well as a women i wear make up. a little powder, eyeshadow and lip gloss. thats all i wear. why? becuase i like it. plain and simple. i dont do it to show people i look good but becuase i want to do it, for me. i never had trouble with my ex's that i wear to much make-up or nor with my current boyfriend. and in some ways we want to feel pretty. and without make up we still look good but we like it. its fun. plain and simple. hope this answer your question.

Im not a female, but as far as i believe, its a want to look "better" or "younger"...... i prefer no makeup, it shows an inner strength that your fine the way you are.....

My Father who is a huge jokers brought this up to me many years ago. He asked: Notice only women wear makeup? Well okay, why? Becasue they feel ugly, God made the females ugly. If you pay attention to the animal kingdom, God made ALL male creatures to be beautiful and full of color, while the females are plain. Well gezz, I wouldnt say females are ugly but in the wild kingdom.. Yes I did notice the male creatures are very colorful and beautiful , while the females are plain - Could this be why?

For the most part, I think it is the social pressure to be the "prettiest" "sexiest" or whatever.
It's a big beauty contest....
